For real fans of the country – some interesting facts about country:

A country is a region identified as a distinct entity in political geography. A country may be an independent sovereign state or one that is occupied by another state, as a non-sovereign or formerly sovereign political division, or a geographic region associated with sets of previously independent or differently associated peoples with distinct political characteristics. Regardless of the physical geography, in the modern internationally accepted legal definition as defined by the League of Nations in 1937 and reaffirmed by the United Nations in 1945, a resident of a country is subject to the independent exercise of legal jurisdiction.

The word country comes from Old French cuntrée, itself derived from Vulgar Latin (terra) contrata (“(land) lying opposite; (land) spread before”), derived from contra (“against, opposite”). It most likely entered English language after the Franco-Norman invasion during the 11th century.

In English the word has increasingly become associated with political divisions, so that one sense, associated with the indefinite article – "a country" – is now a synonym for state, or a former sovereign state, in the sense of sovereign territory or "district, native land". Areas much smaller than a political state may be called by names such as the West Country in England, the Black Country (a heavily industrialized part of England), "Constable Country".

Many people currently do not have a sovereign state, have been engaged in so-called liberation war, or take action (often a terrorist) other organizations. In the present example is fighting for the independence of Kurdistan from Turkey, Eastern Turkestan, China, and Tibet, Basque Country, East Timor (in the latter case, already restored state) and others In some cases it's former state, in other countries, did not have statehood. The mismatch between the boundaries of countries and States, a common enough phenomenon in Asia. Also decided to allocate the country's different scale, calling the smaller the territory of historic areas (for example, Eastern Turkestan consists of two countries: Kashgaria and Dzungaria). At the same time, a large number of examples of countries outside of the state borders can be found in Europe: Lapland (territory divided between the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden, the Republic of Finland and the Russian Federation), Transylvania (fully included in the Romanian Republic of), Occitania (part of the French Republic). Countries usually have different names (Germany and the Federal Republic of Germany, France and the French Republic, Russia, and the Russian Federation).
